I prefer to dress up the edges by grinding / contouring them to enable a more correctly mating set! Especially if you "Plate" this item. You do not want the halves to scratch each other during assembly.

And it looked damn good also. Notice the beautiful rivit work. You will not find an antique rivit machine like the one I utilize to sink these rivits. Sometimes you just have to do it right.
