Here is the end shot of the Main Cluster Bearing Shaft. You will notice that this is the bigger shaft. The earlier trannies had smaller diameter shafts. Unfortunately they suffered from deflection under severe loads. The end of the shafts are designed this way to eliminate rotation and assembly by idiots
