This is the area where it occurs. The sleeve is pushed forward to engage with the gear. The reverse driven gear just moves back and forth on the reverse slider. When the collar is close to the gear it harmlessly touches it and makes the tick, whine etc. Correctly adjusting the Shifter Travel Limits will prevent this
