When it comes to Drum Brakes, you have Backing Plates. These act as a Dust Shield, Drum Brake Backing Support, Spring Attaching Spot, Wheel Cylinder Mounting Flange. These are quite Important and so is their condiion. If the Brake Shoes have worn slots into them you have to weld them back flush.
